Is it worth investing in RES?

As well as having a positive impact on the environment, investment in renewable energy sources should also bring tangible economic benefits for the investor over time. This used to be difficult to achieve, but today rapid technological progress in the fields of photovoltaics and heat pumps, as well as increasingly widespread forms of subsidy, have made it worthwhile to invest in renewable energy sources.

My electricity and thermo-modernisation relief

Several government programmes are currently available to investors to support investment in technologies that reduce CO2 emissions, such as photovoltaics, heat pumps, recuperation and many others. We have already written about the 'My Current' programme for photovoltaics and the thermo-modernisation allowance in an earlier post on our blog.

Clean air programme

The Clean Air Programme is a government programme aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere and increasing the energy efficiency of buildings. PLN 103 billion has been allocated to the programme and is expected to last until 2029. The call for applications is ongoing. The programme is intended for owners of single-family residential buildings with an annual income not exceeding PLN 100 000. Unfortunately, the programme does not provide support for newly constructed buildings.

From 15 May 2020 there have been a number of changes to make it easier for potential beneficiaries to benefit from grants such as:

(1) online submission of applications

2) Integration with the "My Current" programme, no longer need to submit separate applications

3) reducing the processing time from 90 to 30 days

4) Simplification of the grant application

- the need to provide detailed technical data is no longer necessary
- no longer collecting income documents
- making declarations instead of enclosing documents

5) Possibility to finance projects started (or even already completed) up to 6 months before the date of application but not earlier than 15.05.2020.

Levels of funding

The programme divides beneficiaries into basic and those eligible for an increased level of funding.

The basic level of support entitles to a grant of up to PLN 25,000 + PLN 5,000 for a photovoltaic installation. The table below shows the funding intensity depending on the type of investment.

It is worth remembering that participation in the Clean Air Programme does not exclude the use of a thermo-modernisation allowance, thanks to which part of the investment costs that were not subject to financing from other programmes can be deducted from income tax.
