Photovoltaics allow us to take care of the environment and save money at the same time. More and more people are realising that the use of renewable energy sources such as solar energy offers a multitude of benefits for ourselves and the planet. Until now, we have mainly associated photovoltaic panels installed on roofs with single-family houses. However, it turns out that housing associations and communities can also benefit from them.

The Renewable Energy Sources Act makes it clear that not only individuals and companies can install photovoltaic cells on their roofs. This solution can also be used by housing associations and cooperatives, which thus become entities that produce and use electricity generated by solar energy.

Photovoltaics for housing associations and cooperatives - key benefits

Multi-family buildings are often the ideal place for photovoltaic panels to be installed on them. Their roof areas are very large and, in most cases, unshaded. These conditions mean that generating electricity to illuminate their common areas should not be a problem in this type of building. This means that the charges for lighting the stairwells and the space around the buildings, as well as powering the lifts or gates, will be significantly reduced.

Solar Roofs programme for communities and cooperatives

The Słoneczne Dachy (Solar Roofs) programme is a project that allows housing associations and cooperatives to receive a preferential loan for the installation of photovoltaic systems on the roofs of multi-family buildings. The money obtained under this programme can be used, among other things, to carry out an energy audit, design the installation, as well as for the purchase and installation of entire systems producing energy from the sun. Last but not least, the money obtained from the loan can also be used to cover the costs of thermal modernisation of the entire building.
