Solar panels, so-called PV modules, are used to convert solar energy into electricity. Through the energy of photovoltaic panels, we can also heat water. Of the currently known ecological energy sources, solar panels are gaining in popularity.

Due to the fact that this solution is becoming an increasingly popular topic - many myths have arisen around it. In this article, we will try to dispel doubts and clarify what are the harmful myths about photovoltaic panels.

Photovoltaic panels are no match for fossil fuels

Many sceptics of solar panels believe that they are incomparably inferior in terms of energy yield to fossil fuels. Are they right? Not entirely. Analysts associated with the photovoltaic industry have proven that the cost of PV modules decreases over time. It is therefore a great time to invest in this type of energy generation. Not only is electricity generation from solar panels environmentally friendly, it is not at all less profitable than fossil fuels.

Installation of photovoltaic panels requires reconstruction of the roof structure

Installation of photovoltaic panels requires reconstruction of the roof structure

This is a misconception. Installing photovoltaic panels does not at all have to involve reinforcing the roof structure. In that case, if you are worried that you will have unforeseen expenses to adapt your roof to the PV modules - nothing could be further from the truth.

Solar panels can be placed on any building

As much as we would like this to be the case, it is unfortunately not the case. Some properties, due to their location, are not able to have photovoltaic panels. This is due to nothing more than an insufficient area where the sun falls. If your roof does not face south, south-west or south-east, it is unfortunately possible that you will have to forgo solar panels on your roof. However, there is a solution to this problem. It is possible to position the panels on the ground. All you need to do is find an unshaded spot on your plot of land where you will have no problem placing the solar panels.

Photovoltaic panels do not work at night

This is true. Due to the nature of their work, it is not possible for the modules to also generate energy at night. However, there are solutions that will allow the energy generated during the day to be used. As you can guess - this energy needs to be stored. This can be done by retrofitting the installation with gel batteries. In addition, it is also possible to combine photovoltaic panels with heat pumps. In fact, this is a very popular solution, which we sincerely recommend.

PV modules require maintenance

Definitely yes. Due to their placement, photovoltaic panels are susceptible to atmospheric changes. Any weather-related factors such as deposits from rain, dirt, sand or dust can significantly reduce the performance of solar panels. To prevent this, we should maintain the modules properly. Usually, manufacturers will inform us on how to care for the cells. There is also the possibility of fitting special sensors for decreasing activity - in this case, we will be informed in real time when it is time to clean the panels.

The investment in photovoltaic panels is not worth it and the costs will not be recouped

If this were the case, the solution would not have gained so much popularity. This is clearly not true. The fact is that it takes several years for the investment in solar panels to pay off. However, what are a few years compared to the time we will spend in our home? We will reduce our energy costs in the long term, which will allow us to put money aside for something else in the future. In addition, there are various types of subsidies for photovoltaics, which will help to spread the costs. If you're still wondering whether it's worth putting panels on your house - take a look at one of our recent articles - we describe there why this investment pays off.
