PME 2 2026: who is eligible for a grant for an energy storage facility?
Do you have a solar panel system and are you thinking about energy storage? Under the PME 2 scheme, you can obtain funding for such an investment. However, there’s more to consider than just the price of the batteries. The capacity of the PV system, the method of energy billing and the features of the chosen system are also important.
Below, we have set out the guidelines that are a good place to start when planning. Most importantly: the grant is a reimbursement of part of the expenses incurred. Before you submit your application, the project must be completed and paid for.
Information as at 8 October 2026.

Start of recruitment
20.10.2026
From 9.00 am
Basic grant
Up to PLN 16,000
Net billing; for discounts of up to 8,000 zł. There are also cost limits of 30% and 800 zł/kWh.
Nominal capacity
At least 10 kWh
At the same time, at least 2 kWh for every 1 kWp of the PV system.

When does recruitment for PME 2 begin?
Recruitment is due to begin 20 October 2026 at 9.00 am and run until 1 October 2027 or until the budget is exhausted. As at the date of this article’s update, applications cannot yet be submitted.
PME 2 is the second phase of the „Subsidies for Domestic Energy Storage” programme, funded by the Modernisation Fund. It has its own terms and conditions, which are set out at the programme’s official website. It should not, therefore, be assumed that the rules familiar from the ‘My Electricity’ scheme will be the same here.
Before ordering the equipment, it is worth checking the programme documentation and agreeing with the contractor which set will be suitable for the existing installation. The purchase of the storage facility alone does not guarantee that a grant will be awarded.
Who can apply for funding?
The scheme is aimed at individuals who own or co-own a renewable energy micro-installation and generate electricity for their own use. The equipment may be located in a residential building or on the plot of land on which such a building stands and where the micro-installation is situated. The installation must be connected to the grid, and the applicant must be a party to a comprehensive agreement or an energy sales agreement governing the feed-in of energy to the grid.
It is worth distinguishing between two roles: you enter into a contract with the energy supplier, whilst the connection of the installation is approved by the distribution system operator (DSO). In parts of Pomerania, this is Energa-Operator.
Systems that are completely disconnected from the grid – i.e. off-grid – are not eligible for this support. An energy contract cannot be concluded for a business operating at the address of the installation. However, simply registering a business at a home address does not automatically mean exclusion. It is necessary to check in whose name the contract was concluded and for what purposes.
How much is the subsidy for energy storage?
The amount is subject to three limits simultaneously: a percentage of eligible costs, a capacity charge, and a maximum amount depending on the method of energy billing.
| Billing system | Maximum grant | Capacity limit | Share of eligible costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net-billing | PLN 16,000 | up to 800 zł/kWh | to 30% |
| Net metering, or rebates | PLN 8,000 | up to 800 zł/kWh | to 30% |
Scroll the table to the side to see all the columns.
Example of a grant calculation
The lowest amount resulting from these three limits applies. For example: with eligible costs of 30,000 zł and a storage capacity of 10 kWh, the percentage limit amounts to 9,000 zł, but the capacity limit is 8,000 zł. The basic subsidy will therefore not exceed 8,000 zł, even under the net-billing scheme.
Furthermore, the cost of purchasing and installing the battery itself – excluding the inverter and the EMS system – must not exceed 3,000 zł per 1 kWh of nominal capacity.
The scheme also covers a heat storage tank with a capacity of at least 100 litres, manufactured in the European Union: the grant covers up to 30% of the costs, up to a maximum of 1,000 zł. Additional support of up to 2,000 zł is also available for equipment manufactured in the EU. It is worth checking the conditions for this additional support for a specific set before purchasing — this amount is not automatically available to everyone. Details are set out in PME 2 priority programme.
What capacity must the warehouse have?
The minimum is 10 kWh nominal capacity, but such a battery is not sufficient in every installation. There is also a requirement for at least 2 kWh of storage capacity for every 1 kWp of photovoltaic capacity.
In practice, it works like this:
- 4 kWp PV system: minimum storage capacity of 10 kWh;
- 5 kWp PV system: minimum storage capacity of 10 kWh;
- 6 kWp PV system: minimum storage capacity of 12 kWh;
- 10 kWp PV system: minimum storage capacity of 20 kWh.
If you are planning to add more panels, take this into account in your calculations. Greater PV power also means a higher required storage capacity. This ratio must also be maintained during any subsequent expansion over the required lifespan of the investment.
These are the terms of the grant. When choosing a system for your home, you also need to check your electricity consumption and when you use energy. A household where most appliances are used during the day operates differently from one that consumes a lot of energy in the evening. You also need to check that the battery is compatible with the inverter.
UPS and emergency power supply: check them before you buy
The system must have an energy management system (EMS). An app displaying energy production and consumption is not sufficient if it is used solely for viewing data. The documentation must confirm the system’s energy flow management functions. The cost of purchasing a separate EMS is not an eligible cost.
An emergency power supply is also required, as specified in the product data sheet. However, this does not mean that every system will be able to power the entire house in the event of a power cut. This depends, amongst other things, on the power consumption of the appliances, the battery charge level and the way the installation has been carried out.
Before installation, agree with the contractor which circuits are to remain operational in the event of a power cut. A fridge, lighting and a router have different requirements to a heat pump, an oven and an induction hob when used simultaneously. The term „backup” in the product description alone does not answer these questions.
When should you incur expenses, and which documents should you keep?
The project must fall within the eligibility period commencing on 1 November 2025. The start date is determined in accordance with the programme’s rules, so it is not enough to check the date on a single invoice. Before submitting the application, the equipment must be installed, the project must have been paid for, and the installation must have been reported to the relevant distribution system operator (DSO).
The equipment must be brand new. No more than 24 months may have elapsed between its manufacture and installation.
From the outset, keep a record of invoices and separate payment receipts. You will also need a current certificate from the distribution system operator (DSO) covering the storage facility, an acceptance report, product data sheets and photographs of the equipment. Before submitting your application, check a full list of the required attachments.
Once you have received the grant, you must maintain the investment in accordance with the programme’s terms and conditions for five years from the date the funds were paid out. It is worth bearing this in mind when planning further changes to the installation.
What about the previous grant from ‘Mój Prąd’?
A grant previously received solely for photovoltaic systems does not preclude applying for funding for a new energy storage facility. However, PME 2 does not fund the purchase of further PV panels.
The situation is different where an energy storage facility at the same energy consumption point, i.e. the PPE, has already received previous funding. In accordance with the official replies from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW), questions 4 and 15, in which case you will not be eligible for further funding for that warehouse, even if you are expanding its capacity. So, before signing the contract, check what the previous grant was for.
Short answers to frequently asked questions
Is it necessary to switch from discounts to net-billing?
No. You can remain on net metering, but in that case the maximum basic subsidy is 8,000 zł.
Will a 10 kWh battery always meet the requirements?
No. For a PV installation larger than 5 kWp, a greater capacity will be required, at a ratio of 2 kWh per 1 kWp.
Can an application be submitted before installation?
No. The project must be completed and paid for in full before the application is submitted.
Does an emergency power supply mean the whole house is powered?
Not always. The backup power range must be determined when selecting equipment and preparing the electrical installation.
Are you planning an energy storage facility in Pomerania?
We will assess the potential for expanding your system and select a solution that takes into account the programme’s requirements and the needs of your home.
